Tim Kennelly and the ABL Championship

Tim Kennelly has had a breakout season in the Austrian Baseball League.  Playing primarily in right and third base, he put up outstanding numbers for Perth, winners of the regular season.  Tomorrow is the first game of the best of three ABL championship series in Perth.  The Perth Heat are taking on the Melbourne Aces.   The games can be seen on the MLB-TV network  on tape delay at noon Friday, Saturday and if needed Sunday.  The  first game actually starts at 3:30 a.m. EST Friday morning.

TK has been one of the players I follow.  We have watched his progress at Clearwater and  Reading the last three seasons.  Back in 2009 we watched him line a homer over the 370ft. sign in left at Reading much to the delight of his family who were there cheering him on.  Kennelly has played every position in the Phils system except shortstop.   He even pitched a third of an inning  and served primarily as the backup catcher to Tuffy Gosewisch with Reading last season.

I like TK’s versatility and five tool skill set.  In the ABL which is basically a weekend league Tim hit 10 homers, had 10 steals and 10 doubles in only 42 games during the regular season while hitting .374 and driving in 39 runs.  He also has a great arm which allows him to play every position.   He has always hit better when not catching, making the Florida State All Star team in 2009 playing in the outfield and hitting .303 for the Threshers before his call up to Reading where he caught the rehabbing Brett Myers that season . If you can catch Myers you can catch any one IMO.

Will be checking on Tim’s progress this weekend.  Just don’t know if I can make the first pitch in real time.  Good article below discusses Tim ABL season and his signing a new one year contract with the Phillies..

I have been a faithful Phillies follower all my life. Today I am most intrigued by those players in the minor league system who work every day of the year to make it to the Show.
