Saturday night showed Ruf, Galvis, And Asche Are Ready For The Phillies 25 Man Roster

Watching Cody Asche make two strong plays at third base tonight in the Rising Stars game on the MLB network provided a brief glimpse of his ability to handle the hot corner defensively.  He made a nice stop on a hard hit ball to his left to get the runner at first and in the same inning went behind the third base bag to field a slower hit ground ball and made another accurate throw to first to get the runner.  To me Cody Asche showed tonight that he has a major league glove and arm at third base.

Down in the Venezuela Darin Ruf continues to play well.  Tonight he had a big seventh inning catching two fly balls in left and in the bottom half of the inning hitting a sacrifice fly  RBI to tie the game and his team La Guaira went on to win in the ninth.  Big D now leads the VWL in RBI’s with 18 in the 19 games he has played.

What more can we say about the hot bat of Freddy Galvis.  He had a big night too in the VWL going 3 for 5 with a rbi and a run scored.  Freddy now leads the VWL with 17 runs scored hitting out of the two hole for league leading Zulia.  He is also sixth in the league with a  .342 batting average.

Clearly young players like Asche, Ruf and Galvis will be closely watched in spring training but they are quickly proving night after night in winter and fall ball that they are all ready to be on the Phillies 25 man roster at some point in the 2013 season if not from day one.

About Baseball Ross

I have been a faithful Phillies follower all my life. Today I am most intrigued by those players in the minor league system who work every day of the year to make it to the Show. This is what this blog is mostly all about. To read more, click here: https://baseballross.wordpress.com/2012/02/05/how-i-got-started-in-baseball/
