The Phillies Organization Needs Roman Quinn To Give The Clearwater Threshers A Spark

Cole Hamels could not do it maybe Roman Quinn can.  That is to give the Phillies Florida State League team an offensive spark.  The Threshers lost all three games that Hamels started in his now completed rehab assignment though he was only 0-1.  He gave up only three run, all home runs including a long blast into the Threshers bullpen at Bright House Field in last night’s 2-1 loss to the Lakeland Flying Tigers .

The Phillies Advanced A team is now  3-11 to start the season. The Thresher do have some players who can drive the ball in last night’s lineup.  First baseman Art Charles went the other way for a double off the left field wall last night.  SEE HERE.   Catcher Logan Moore continues to develop as a left handed hitting catcher as he stroked a double to center.  SEE HERE.  The Threshers need a table setter on the base paths who Charles and Moore can drive in.

The Threshers do have a solid team but they need someone who can leadoff, steal a bag and gets things started.  They need a guy like Roman Quinn at shortstop to fill that role.  Roman has suffered a series of injuries including an achilles injury working out last Fall and earlier his 2013 season at Lakewood was cut short by a broken wrist from a pitched ball.

Wednesday afternoon Baseball Betsy and I were running late but we promised Feliberto Sanchez that we would get to the Complex to watch him pitch in an extended spring intra-squad game.  We got to Roberts Field just in time to see Sanchez strike out Roman Quinn. Sanchez had a major league change up that day and while we were there he struck out five as his off speed pitch would dart down in the zone every time he threw it.  But the most important thing that day was  seeing Quinn in uniform and back in action hitting if not yet playing in the field.

This could only mean that Roman Quinn is making serious progress to getting back in the lineup.  He is badly needed if the Threshers are to be competitive in the the Florida State League this season.  Cole Hamels could not help the Threshers play winning baseball but we have a feeling that Roman might be the missing link the Threshers need to get the season turned around.

About Baseball Ross

I have been a faithful Phillies follower all my life. Today I am most intrigued by those players in the minor league system who work every day of the year to make it to the Show. This is what this blog is mostly all about. To read more, click here:
