In his 161st game of the 2015 season on Friday night way down under in Adelaide, South Australia, Rhys Hoskins went deep for the 22nd time all total and the fourth time for Sydney in Australia Baseball League action. Watch HERE (Starts at 1:42). He needs to go yard only one more time to tie Ryan Howard’s 23 homers for the Phillies organization lead in homers in 2015. Howard also hit 23 long balls in 2014.
Hoskins is one of the few power hitters in the Phillies system and the top right handed power bat they have!
He has hit long balls in just about every venue imaginable this season. He hit nine for Lakewood and eight with Clearwater during the regular season. Then, one in the Florida State League playoffs and now four in the ABL. And some of those parks are not very hitter friendly for the long ball.
Currently, Hoskins is tied for the ABL lead in doubles with 12, second in homers and fifth in slugging.
Let’s hope that Hoskins who will turn 23-years old in March, only about seven months younger than Maikel Franco, can earn an invite to the Phillies major league spring training camp. He has earned playing time at first base at the highest level. And the Phillies at some point will surely need some pop in their power starved 2016 lineup!
