In Offseason Action, Hoskins Is Hit by a Pitch, H-Rod and Franco Go Deep and Moore Just Keeps Winning

Rhys Hoskins took a 2-2 pitch up and in that deflected off his hand and jaw in Australian Baseball action on Saturday.  Hoskins who is tied for doubles and leads in extra base hits in the ABL had no chance to get out of the way of a fastball in the second game of a Sydney Blue Sox doubleheader against the Melbourne Aces.   Hoskins threw his bat away in disgust and was taken out of the game after reaching first base.  Watch HERE at the 1 hour and 17 minute mark of the game for the hit by pitch.

On Friday night one of our favorites Herlis Rodriguez homered in the game in the Venezuelan Winter League. He lined it to right for his first homer of the VWL season.  He has not played much recently  but finally caught up to one as a replacement outfielder for his Aragua team.

Logan Moore

Logan Moore

We watched Dominican Winter League action Friday night on the internet to follow the great season that Logan Moore is having for the Licey Tigers.  The Tigers were playing Maikel Franco’s Gigantes team.  Franco hit his third homer of the season in 18 games to tie up the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the eighth, see HERE.  But in the top of then ninth Moore walked to load the bases to set up a five run inning.  Moore’s team went on to win 7-3 and remain tied for first place as the DWL action moves into the final weekend of the regular season.

For Moore it was his team’s 12th straight win when he was the Licey starting catcher.   Overall the team is only nine games over .500 and is tied for first place.  With Moore flashing the signals last night, the Licey pitchers struck out 15 Gigantes batters.  See HERE.

His catcher’s ERA remains around 2 runs per nine innings during his amazing 12 game starting catching winning streak.  Only one of the three Gigantes’s runs were earned.

The regular season for the offseason leagues, except for the ABL, will soon be ending with he playoff and the Caribbean series to follow right up until major league spring training.

Logan Moore has put up numbers for a memorable season in the DWL in limited action. He should get a look in some major league spring training games and we hope Rhys Hoskins can bounce back quickly from the wild action down under to get some at bats in the MLB spring games as well.  They both have earned it!

  1. Romus says:

Ross… I think the ABL has about 10 more games left to be played.
