Phillies Top Outfield Prospect Dylan Cozens Goes Yard In Puerto Rico League Playoffs

Dylan Cozens is one of those Phillies prospects that always interesting to watch.  He has all the tools. Not too many 6’6″ outfielders stole 20 bases in 26 attempts during the regular season combined with the Clearwater and Reading during the regular season.  Also he hit .286.   He has a strong arm and can hit the ball a long way.

In the 2015 season the 21- year-old  Cozens just kept getting batter at the plate.  He hit .282 with Clearwater and in the final 11 games of the regular season with Reading he hit .350 and .310 in the Eastern League playoffs.

Now playing for Indis de Mayaguez in the Liga de Beisbol Professional Roberto Clemente Playoffs in Puerto Rico, Cozens had a big Thursday night going 2 for 3 with a two-run homer and scoring three runs in the 11-3 win. Watch HERE.

We watched Cozens play most of the season with the Threshers and watched him on Milb- TV when he finish the season with Reading.  He is always fun to watch because he is a five-tool player.

We were able to watch several of his home runs either in person or on the internet in 2015.

One was a long ball that we saw him hit in Clearwater. Watch it HERE. The next home run we watched was on the internet, when he played in Reading.  See HERE.  Finally, we saw him hit another homer on the Internet in the Puerto Rican League All Star Game, see HERE.

Look for Cozens to have a big 2016 season, likely starting with Reading, then on to Lehigh Valley and finally a September call-up with the Phillies.

About Baseball Ross

I have been a faithful Phillies follower all my life. Today I am most intrigued by those players in the minor league system who work every day of the year to make it to the Show. This is what this blog is mostly all about. To read more, click here:

Thanks for mentioning stolen bases with this article on Dylan Cozens. His speed is over looked by his size 6’6″ and 250 pounds. but Dylan’s speed as been under estimated and disrespected over and over by Matt Winkelman for some reason! Dylan is speed not below average according to Matt Winkelman ! Thanks again for mentioning stolen bases!

His evaluations on DC has been consistent like that for a few years now. Apparently, ii is an accumulation of analysts and some of his own observations. I disagree with it. I am willing to bet Cozens , by Sept 2017, will have the Phillies FO trying to determine where to squeeze his powerful bat in the lineup for the upcoming 2018 season. The corner OF positions would appear to be a crowded ‘field’ by then.
But I can only think that there will be plenty of GMs around the league who will like to take a flyer on Cozens in a trade by then.
