Let’s Get The 2016 Phillies Spring Training Season Started!

It was one of those Ernie Banks,”let’s play two” days here in Clearwater. Especially when temperatures touch 70 degrees under a clear blue sky.

Phillies pitchers and catchers reported along with other position players who wanted to getting a head start on spring training.

This morning Baseball Betsy and I went first to the Carpenter Complex to visit Don and get the major league spring training rosters and the minor league schedules. The roster is HERE.  Don is always one of our favorites as he mans the entrance to the Paul Owens training facility.  He knows everybody and always knows what’s going on.

After a quick check on the least exciting part of the spring training “PFP’s” or pitchers fielding practice on Ashburn Field, we were off to Bright House to see Andres “Whitey” Blanco, Freddy Galvis and Darin Ruf take infield practice on the half field out front of the entrance.

Then, it was inside to Bright House to watch J.P Crawford, Brock Stassi, Tyler Goeddel, Roman Quinn, Nick Williams, Aaron Altherr, and Cesar Hernandez put on shows in batting practice.  Stassi and Williams launched a couple of long wind-aided drives over the wall in right.  Then Sammy Samuel hit fungos to the outfielders while Hernandez, Crawford and Stassi went over to the half field for infield drills.

So the Phillies Spring Training 2016 has started for better or worse.  Below are a series of  Baseball Betsy’s photos from today’s spring training action in Clearwater:

About Baseball Ross

I have been a faithful Phillies follower all my life. Today I am most intrigued by those players in the minor league system who work every day of the year to make it to the Show. This is what this blog is mostly all about. To read more, click here: https://baseballross.wordpress.com/2012/02/05/how-i-got-started-in-baseball/
