Finally Phillies Have Power Hitting Bats At The Infield Corners: Same Age But Different Lineups

Remember this date, Friday March 18th, 2016.   That date will go down in Phillies history when two, 23- year-old corner infielders each hit home runs and each drove in three runs for the Phillies in spring training wins.

One guy did it in a major league spring game and the other guy did it in a minor league game.  But both of the long balls and RBI’s represented the future of the team.

The major league homer was hit by third baseman Maikel Franco. Read HERE.  The minor league homer was hit by first baseman Rhys Hoskins, Read HERE.

Franco leads all players in the major leagues with seven spring training game home runs.  Hoskins is in his first week in the minor league camp and hit his first homer in three minor league games.

Also, the good news is that both Franco and Hoskins hit both left-handed and right-handed pitchers.

I still can’t figure out why Hoskins has not been given a chance to play in a major league spring training game.  He put up outstanding numbers in three different leagues last season hitting .311 with 26 homers and 135 RBIs combined.

At least on Friday, both Franco and Hoskins gave me something to dream about: young power hitting bats from the infield corner positions.  Now, if they can just get in the same lineup, the rebuilding Phillies might have something truly worth watching!

About Baseball Ross

I have been a faithful Phillies follower all my life. Today I am most intrigued by those players in the minor league system who work every day of the year to make it to the Show. This is what this blog is mostly all about. To read more, click here: https://baseballross.wordpress.com/2012/02/05/how-i-got-started-in-baseball/

Hoskins was with the major leaguers in Saturday but the game was obviously rained out.
