It was the best game of the young Florida State League season as the Clearwater Threshers overcame a four-run deficit to defeat the Charlotte Stone Crabs 6-4 to split the four game series The Threshers are now 4-4 on the season as they head to Florida’s east coast for a four game series with the Jupiter Hammerheads.
After another rough outing by starter Matt Imhof, the Threshers came back with the bats of shortstop Malquin Canelo who drove in two runs on a single, Watch HERE. And a three-run blast by Kyle Martin which put the game away in the seventh. Watch HERE.
It was the work Alexis Rivero out of the pen who shutdown the Stone Crabs after coming on with no outs and runners on first and second in the sixth inning, that also stood out. Rivero was helped in part by the great glove work of both Canelo and Martin who made a highlight reel play on a 6-3 ground out to end the eight inning. Watch HERE.
Emerging as a top prospect closer for the Phillies, former Threshers starter and middle reliever from previous seasons, Miguel Nunez came out for a three up-three down ninth inning. He relied on an effective slider and 96 MPH fastballs on the “black” to get two strikeouts and pick up his second save of the young season. Watch HERE.
