It was another masterful start by Clearwater Threshers right-hander, Ranfi Casimiro.  He made quick work of the Daytona Tortugas, 1-0, last night at Bright House Field.  Making his home debut, he threw a 70-pitch, three-hit, shutout over six innings, to pick up his third win in three starts to open the season, thanks as well to a strong bullpen.

Alexis Rivero pitched two shutout innings for the hold and Victor Arano came on in the ninth for the save.

The Threshers now sit high-a-top the Florida State League leader board with a 10-5 record by sweeping the three-game series against the Cincinnati Reds farmhands.  They lead the league in several key pitching categories as well, including ERA, WHIP, the only team not to have hit a batter and tied with four shutouts.

Perhaps for the first time ever the Threshers have three pitchers sitting at the top of three categories of the  the MiLB Advanced A leader board as of 4/22/16.  Casimiro for wins, Garcia for ERA and Eschelman for WHIP.  Look HERE

Casimiro is rapidly developing as one of the top starters in the Phillies system.  He finished last season with the Lakewood BlueClaws going 7-2. And now is 10-2 in his last twelve decisions.

This season after a rocky first start facing his first four batter of the season giving up three runs on four hits to the Dunedin Blue Jays, Casimiro has pitched 15 shutout innings, striking out 20.   He is tied for the FSL lead in wins with three and is third in strikeouts.

In addition to striking out six, he fielded his position well last night including picking off a runner at first and especially knocking down a drive up the middle for a 1-3 assist.  Watch HERE.  He then got a swing and miss on a 94 mph heater to the next batter who he went on to strikeout.

Watch his six strikeouts, HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE and HERE.

All the Threshers needed was one run which came across in the bottom the sixth set up on a base hit by Cord Sandberg, watch HERE and a two out rbi, single by Kyle Martin, watch HERE.  Martin now leads the FSL with 15 RBIs.

The Brevard County Manatees come to town tonight to take on the red hot Threshers with Elniery Garcia on the mound. Garcia has opened the season with 12 shutout innings in his first two starts to lead the league in ERA.
