The Phillies Need To Find a Position In The Field For Zach Green!

The Clearwater Threshers have looked sharp against the Bradenton Marauders on Sunday and last night.  The Marauder lead the Florida State League’s Southern Division but the Threshers have the second best record overall trailing only the Tampa Yankees by 3 1/2 games in the North with only six games left for the the first half division championship.

Great pitching has been the Threshers trademark this season. The last two games against Bradenton have been no exception.  Elniery Garcia pitched a three-hit, six inning shutout in Sunday’s game to get the win to lower his ERA to 1.97 and Yacksel Rios took a six strikeout, three hitter into the sixth inning before giving up the first run of the game to lower his ERA to 1.89. Watch a Rios strikeout HERE.

The Threshers need offense from the right side of the plate and Zach Green can supply it.  He knocked in the first Threshers run in the bottom of the sixth on a base hit left to tie the game in his third at bat. Watch his RBI hit HERE.  In his two previous at bats first he backed the Bradenton left fielder up to the wall for a long out. Then, he singled hard to left in his second at bat. Watch HERE.

It’s hard to believe the Phillies can not find a position spot for Green who is listed as a corner infielder but has been a DH or on the bench too many times this season.  Especially since Green is hitting .310 with runners in scoring position and the Phillies organization can always use a run-producing, right handed bat at just about every level.

Over the last six weeks and 111 at bats, Green is hitting .300 with 11 doubles, three homers and 16 RBIs.

At baseball age 22, Green is in his fifth season in the Phillies organization and would be a nice pick-up for one of the other 29 organizations in the December Rule Five draft if the Phillies do not have plans for him.

Shortstop Malquin Canelo drove in the winning run with a two-run, rbi double in the eight for the 3-1 win. Watch Here.  Alexis Rivero came on  and was credited with the win to go 4-1 and lower his ERA to 1.16, retiring all ten batters he faced.  Watch his last out in the ninth, HERE.

About Baseball Ross

I have been a faithful Phillies follower all my life. Today I am most intrigued by those players in the minor league system who work every day of the year to make it to the Show. This is what this blog is mostly all about. To read more, click here:
