Phillies Farm Teams Show More Than One Way To Win

Almost at same time last night, but over 1,000 miles a part, the Reading Fightin Phils in the Eastern League and the Clearwater Threshers in the Florida State League scored winning runs.   But in very different ways.

Reading as expected did it with the long ball, a Dylan Cozens eight inning Grand Slam to break up an 8-8 tie. Clearwater did it with small ball on a Carlos Tocci walk, Watch video HERE, a sacrifice bunt by Kyle Martin, watch video HERE and a two out, RBI walk-off single by Zach Green, watch HERE in the bottom of the ninth for a 7-6 win over the Dunedin Blue Jays.

It was good baseball. Two teams showing how to win close and late baseball.  Reading remains  four game up on the Trenton Thunder for the EL Northern Division lead.  Clearwater tied the Blue Jays for first placed in the Northern Division last night.

Nothing is more exciting than a home run duel between two teammates.  It brings back memories of my youth when I watched  Maris/Mantle dueling to break Babe Ruth’s home run record back in 1961.  The battles between Hoskins and Cozens for the professional baseball home run and RBI leads are what legends are made of.

Hoskins hit two homers last night to bring his major and minor league baseball leading total to 33 and Cozens was right behind hime with his two homers last night to bring his total to 32.  Read HERE and watch Cozens’ grand slam HERE.   Cozens now leads all of baseball in RBIs with 101 and Hoskins is right behind with 98.

Last night was a night to remember in Phillies minor league baseball history.  Two first place teams showing how to win games in very different ways. And two teammate battling for professional baseball’s home run and RBI leads.

Fans, buckle up we are going to have a great final month to the Phillies minor league season.
