After the losing performances of the three other Phillies farm teams in the playoffs, we are looking forward to the Lakewood Blue Claws in the Sally League best-of-five championship series.
The first two-games are on the road and listed to be televised on MiLB-TV at 7:05 tonight and tomorrow with Franklin Kilome on the mound facing the Rome Braves in the first game and Seranthony Dominguez taking the hill tomorrow night for the Blue Claws.
Kilome and Dominguez are two of the hottest pitchers currently in baseball.
The 6’6″ 21 year-old Kilome finished the regular season strong pitching 13 shutout innings allowing only 7 hits, no walks and striking out 15 in his last two starts. Read HERE.
The 21 year-old Dominguez has been even better. In his last four starts over 21 innings, he has allowed no earned runs and only 12 hits while striking out 24. My favorite video of Dominguez is retiring Blue Jays catcher Dioner Navarro in a spring training game. See HERE.
Offensively, the player I want to see play is Mark Laird. He has played all three outfield positions this season but has been in the corners in the two playoff games. He was a ninth round draft pick in June from Louisiana State. In 31 games in the regular season with Lakewood he hit .353 with a .442 OPS.
As a table setter in the leadoff spot in the elimination game against Hagerstown, Laird went 4 for 4 with three runs scored, a walk and a stolen base. Read HERE.
Third baseman Damek Tomscha leads in RBIs with four with a double and triple plus three walks in the two games so far in the post season. First baseman Wilson Garcia is second with three RBIs.
Right fielder Jose Pujols has three singles in the playoffs. He was the Low A, leading home run hitter with 24 and fourth in RBIs with 82 during the regular season but did not go deep or drive in a run in the two game semi-finals.
It is now up to the BlueClaws to carry the Phillies minor league banner since the Lehigh Valley, Reading have all been eliminated from post season play and the GCL Phillies lost in the best-of-three Gulf Coast League final game.
