Hoskins, Perkins, Knapp and Stassi Shine In Phillies Major League Spring Games

It was hard to get excited by the journeymen players released from other organizations in the Phillies major league spring camp .

So it was good to see Phillies 2016 minor league players deliver in Wednesday’s spit squad games against the Tigers and Pirates as spring training comes to an end Friday.

Cameron Perkins

Rhys Hoskins hit a solo homer and added a sacrifice fly RBI.  Cameron Perkins homered and scored two runs. While players with  chances to make the 25-man major league roster delivered as well.  Brock Stassi hit his team leading sixth homer this spring and catcher Andrew Knapp went 2 for 3.

Watch Hoskins, Perkins and Stassi home runs from Wednesday’s games, HERE, HERE, and HERE.

We have followed Hoskins and Perkins from the beginning.  We were watching Hoskins debut with Williamsport back in 2014 and when Perkins played briefly in the GCL in 2012.

They have put up good numbers in the Phillies minor league system. The 24-year-old Hoskins is approaching 1,300 minor league at bats and has slashed at .288/.372/.516.    The 26-year-old Perkins will soon have 2,000 minor league at bats and has slashed at .281/.330/.413.

They have produced in the Phillies spring training games this year, even knowing they no chance of making the major league opening day roster.  Hoskins went 6 for 21 with three homers, two doubles and 6 walks to lead all Phillies in spring OPS. Perkins went 10 for 29 with two homers, two doubles and five walks to come in third in OPS.

Hoskins and Perkins will open the season at AAA.  We can only hope they will join Knapp and Stassi  in the Phillies major league lineup.

About Baseball Ross

I have been a faithful Phillies follower all my life. Today I am most intrigued by those players in the minor league system who work every day of the year to make it to the Show. This is what this blog is mostly all about. To read more, click here: https://baseballross.wordpress.com/2012/02/05/how-i-got-started-in-baseball/
