Strong Pitching by Alejandro Requena Key To Threshers 3-1 Win Over Charlotte

Clearwater’s Alejandro Requena came up big in pitching seven strong innings for the 3-1 win over the Southern Division leading Charlotte Stone Crabs last night at Spectrum Field. It was a big win for the Threshers who maintained a four game lead over the Lakeland Flying Tigers for first place  in the FSL Northern Division with only nine games to go.

Requena evened his record at 4-4, allowing only a run in the third inning and struck out five. Watch several of his strikeouts HERE.

The Threshers only managed four hits in the game but bunched three of them together in the fifth inning to score three runs. Luke Williams and Edgar Cabral singled and a base hit by Kevin Markham scored William to tie up the score at 1-1. Watch HERE.  Daniel Brito lined a ball to left which was misjudged and the error scored Cabral and Markham for the 3-1 lead.

JD Hammer came on in the eight to earn his first hold of the season.  Addison Russ closed down the Stone Crabs in the ninth for his 13th save of the season for the Thresher and 26th overall.  Watch his final out HERE.

The Threshers close out the 2018 regular home season tonight with Charlotte starting at 6:15 and Sunday at 1:00 pm. before finishing up with the final seven games on the road.

Also worth mentioning is that they played throughout impending bad weather, rain as well as close lightning. Betsy caught this strike hitting the cell phone towers across Highway 19 from Spectrum Field!
