On Tuesday, the Phillies Farm Director hightailed it out of the town leaving behind three of his former teams at the starting line of the minor league post season. The Phillies Front Office seemed never to put any priority into the minor league playoffs. It showed when the Farm Director had enough and quit only hours before the 2018 minor league playoffs started.
In the Florida State League post-season, the Clearwater Threshers pulled out a 7-6 victory with late innings heroics Tuesday night against Daytona but it was all down hill from there. The Threshers proceeded to lose the next two games in the best-of-three finals, blowing a four-run lead early in the game on Wednesday night and a three-run lead late in the game Thursday night to end their season.
In the last two nights, the Lehigh Valley IronPigs seemed to be going through the motions losing back-to-back games to the Scranton Wilkes-Barre RailRiders to open the best-of-five, semi-finals in the International League. The Pigs need to win three in row to move on to the Finals when the series resumes tonight in east Allentown.
For us fans, it now all comes down to the Lakewood BlueClaws to save the Phillies minor league season. They lead the best-of-three semi-finals in the South Atlantic League with a win in Kannapolis N.C. on Wednesday night. The series resumes tonight in Lakewood with Spencer Howard on the mound. The 22-year-old California native is a strikeout specialist. He is tied with two other pitchers this season in all of low A ball in strikeouts with 147 . He did it in the fewest innings pitched though, only 112.2 innings.
It will be must see MiLB-TV at 7:05 Friday night, when Howard will try to save the Phillies minor league post season, now in a free fall. With the way the big league team is playing, Howard might even pitching to save the entire 2018 season tonight for the failing Phillies organization from top to bottom!

The answer is “yes”. Lakewood’s Spencer Howard just pitched a nine-inning, no hitter to defeat Kannapolis 1-0. He threw 103 pitches striking out nine. The BlueClaws move on to the best-of-five Final round of the South Atlantic League playoffs either in Lexington Ky on Monday night.
