The way Tyler Viza is pitching some team will take a flyer on him in the upcoming Rule 5 draft unless the Phillies put him on the 40-man roster. On Tuesday in his final AFL start he pitched a brilliant, nine strikeout, five inning shutout. Read HERE.
Over his last ten games of the season for Reading and a playoff game in relief for Lehigh Valley, he pitched 59 innings striking out 51 for a 1.98 ERA. Included in that stretch of games, he pitched a seven inning, three-hit shutout striking out 11 back on August 27th against Richmond. Watch his final strikeout HERE.
We have been watching Tyler ever since he first joined the Phillies in 2013 as a 32nd round draft pick that year. The best we saw him pitch was back on May 1st of 2016 when he again struck out 11 in 6.1 innings for the Clearwater Threshers. Read and watch HERE.
Clearly, the Phillies need to add Tyler Viza to the 40-man roster by the November 20th deadline to protect him from the Rule 5. The way he is pitching, he has earned it!
