Spencer Howard Ends His Arizona Fall League Season With Three, No-hit, Shutout Innings

It took Spencer Howard only 46 pitchers to pitch three shutout, no hit innings to end his Arizona Fall League Season, Thursday night.

Howard racked up four strikeouts including a swinging strikeout on a 98.6 mph fastball to end the first inning and struck out the side swinging in the second on a curve ball at 76.2 mph, and two fastballs at 96.3 mph and 96.5 mph. He allowed his only base runner in his three innings on a walk in the second inning.

He ended his AFL season with 27 strikeouts in 21.1 innings allowing only 10 hits for a 2.11 ERA. Opponents hit .137 against him in his six starts.

Howard was one of five pitchers who stood out in recent AFL starts. Watch and Read about him, HERE.

Howard looks ready for his first trip to the Phillies major league spring training camp in February and a shot at the starting rotation. He is un-hittable at times. As shown below:

Above shows a Howard swinging strikeout on his curveball in a game from October 10th where his pitch starts off letter high, then moves down to belt high as it approaches the plate, crosses the plate at the hitter’s knee and is caught below the knee. That my friend is a major league, top of the rotation curve ball!

Below are several of Howard’s strikeouts from last night’s game:
