Phillies Prospects Bohm, Mead, O’Hoppe and Aklinski Come Up BIG In International Play

The Phillies baseball season never ends. Over in the Far East, Alec Bohm, Curtis Mead, Logan O’Hoppe and Ben Aklinski are getting a head start on the 2020 season. Boy are they ever!

In the Premier12 tournament in Japan, Team USA defeated host Japan, 4-3, and earned their first win in the WBSC Premier12 super round. They were paced by Bohm who led off the second inning with a double against  Japan’s submarine starter. He went 2 for 5 with a run scored and a RBI.

Over in Taiwan, the Adelaide Giants of the Australian Baseball League split two preseason games last weekend with the help of a RBI single by Mead, a homer by O’Hoppe and a three-run blast by Aklinski.

Aklinski brought Adelaide to life in the fifth when he crushed his three-run homer to close the deficit to just one run. Aklinski was named MVP in the game. Mead tied the game in the sixth with a two-out RBI single, before O’Hoppe smashed the go-ahead two-run homer in the 10-6 win for the Giants.

The Giant are all but a Phillies farm team with six Phillies prospects on the roster. The Giants have three of the Phillies Aussie players on the roster including Mead plus Mitch Edwards and Rixon Wingrove. The Phillies sent down under O’Hoppe, Aklinski and Cole Stobbe to round out the Adelaide roster.

The Giants preseason continues over the weekend when they take on three Japanese University teams in a three-game series in Adelaide. The Giants’ ABL season opens on November 21.

There is a great article outlining the new partnership between the Adelaide Giants and the  Phillies. You can read it HERE.

About Baseball Ross

I have been a faithful Phillies follower all my life. Today I am most intrigued by those players in the minor league system who work every day of the year to make it to the Show. This is what this blog is mostly all about. To read more, click here: https://baseballross.wordpress.com/2012/02/05/how-i-got-started-in-baseball/
