Will The Phillies Jhailyn Ortiz Have a Breakout 2020 Season? He Hit a Grand Slam Yesterday In the Grapefruit League

Jhailyn Ortiz hit a grand slam in yesterday’s Grapefruit League game against the Baltimore Orioles. Last season with Clearwater in the FSL, he also hit a grand slam in nearly the same spot. He has the talent. He only needs to to put it all together on a regular basis.

You can watch the grand slam from yesterday HERE.

He also hit a grand slam last season with Clearwater that you can see below:

Defensively, Ortiz has a strong outfield arm. Last season with Clearwater he has 14 assists: 1 in 8 games in left field, 3 in 13 games in center and 10 in 68 games in right field.

The real problem is that last season he struck out 149 times in 430 at bats. He hit only .200 in 115 games.

He did hit 19 home runs good enough for second in the Florida State League. He was fourth in the league with 65 RBIs.

Ortiz finish up his fourth season in the Phillies system after signing a $4.2 million contract with them back in 2015. He will play this season at baseball age 21.

Let’s hope he gets a chance to play in AA Reading this season were the ball does carry better than in the FSL.  If Jhailyn can get his swing down and make more contact, he will hit the ball a long way more often and have a breakout season!

About Baseball Ross

I have been a faithful Phillies follower all my life. Today I am most intrigued by those players in the minor league system who work every day of the year to make it to the Show. This is what this blog is mostly all about. To read more, click here: https://baseballross.wordpress.com/2012/02/05/how-i-got-started-in-baseball/
