Homegrown Mauricio Llovera and Spencer Howard Show The Increasing Depth Of Phillies Pitching

It’s always fun when players you have watched in the minor leagues progress up the ladder to the major league level. We were there for Mauricio Llovera in 2018 and Spencer Howard in 2019. They were the best starters the Clearwater Threshers had in those years.

Spencer Howard

On Monday, Llovera pitched two innings and struck out four swinging against the Yankees, including both left and right handed hitters. Howard made his 2020 debut and ended his one inning of work in the eighth by painting the outside corner for a called strike three against the Twins.

These two Phillies prospect were starters who dominated the Florida State League those years.  Both threw in the mid to high 90’s with the Threshers. As a tribute to them, we have posted below the strike threes from Llovera’s game on Monday and Howard’s game on Tuesday:

About Baseball Ross

I have been a faithful Phillies follower all my life. Today I am most intrigued by those players in the minor league system who work every day of the year to make it to the Show. This is what this blog is mostly all about. To read more, click here: https://baseballross.wordpress.com/2012/02/05/how-i-got-started-in-baseball/
