His name does not appear on any Top 30 Phillies prospect lists. He is not mentioned as a top prospect anywhere but 23 year-old Luke Williams was the most interesting rookie player we saw in the recent Phillies MLB spring training camp.
To wit: He hit .391. with a 1.027 OPS in 14 Grapefruit League games.
To wit: He was 2 for 2 in stolen bases.
To wit: He homered in one game. Watch HERE.
To wit: He played six positions in Grapefruit League games and has played all the positions on the field except pitching and catching in his minor league career. He did pitch and catch in his high school games.
Williams showed us he can hit, hit with power, run, throw and field. He has the experience to play all the positions on a baseball field.
It is amazing that the likes of third baseman Alec Bohm and catcher Rafael Marchan get all the coverage as the next great Phillies rookie stars but Luke Williams out performed them all in spring training!
With the roster expanding to 26 players when the 2020 MLB season eventually starts, a guy like Williams would make a great player off the bench in just about any situation!
