Didi Gregorius Is Proving To Be Move Valuable to the Phillies Than Even Bryce Harper

The Phillies are making their final push for a post season berth. They have not been in the playoffs since 2011. Now, they are banged up with key pitchers and position players going down with assorted injuries.

One player who has kept on ticking is Didi Gregorius. He could turn out to be the best pickup of all by the usually struggling Front Office.  His majestic two-run homer last night put the icing on the cake in the needed 4-1 win.

Didi is hitting 18 points above his career average at .282 with a .833 OPS so far this season.  He is hitting .342 with with a RISP with a .953 OPS.  What more can he do?

What do the Phillies need to do? They need to sign Didi to an extended contract. He will be a free agent at season’s end.

The Phillies shortstop of the future, Bryson Stott, is not quite ready yet. He is toiling away at the alternate camp in East Allentown. Last I could find, Bryson was hitting .232 there in intrasquad games.

Didi has hit 8 homers and 31 RBIs so far this season.  Bryce Harper has hit 8 homers also but has only 22 RBIs.

Could it be that Didi Gregorius has been more valuable to the Phillies than even Bryce Harper has been this season?

About Baseball Ross

I have been a faithful Phillies follower all my life. Today I am most intrigued by those players in the minor league system who work every day of the year to make it to the Show. This is what this blog is mostly all about. To read more, click here: https://baseballross.wordpress.com/2012/02/05/how-i-got-started-in-baseball/

  1. Romus says:

Sign Didi…sign JTR…….that is probably $42M AAV combined.
Not sure whoever the GM is…..can afford to do that.
