Good Job By Phillies Starter Adonis Medina In His Major League Debut.

We have had Clearwater Threshers season tickets since 2012. We have seen several future major league prospect pass through town over the years. It is always very special when one of them makes his major league debut.

We have become friends over the years with several the Latin players in the Phillies system. Adonis Medina came to our home to visit one of the players that was staying with us when both of them pitched for the Threshers. So it was extra special to watch Adonis on MLB.TV make his Phillies major league starting pitcher debut on Sunday.

Medina was outstanding after gaining confidence and getting stronger as the game went on. After settling in, after struggling in the first inning and part of the second inning, he went on to retired the last eight batters he faced. This included striking out the last two batters on called and swinging strike threes before leaving after the fourth inning trailing 2-1.

He had good velocity with his fastball topping out at 93 mph and 94 mph on the TV speed gun. Eventually, he gained command of his off-speed stuff as the game progressed. Watch videos, HERE.

He struck out four in his four innings of work. He gave up his only the two runs in first inning. He was touched up for three hits and walked three, all in the first two innings and was charged with a balk in the first inning as well.

Adonis Medina was charged with the loss in his major league debut. More importantly though, Adonis showed he has major league stuff especially in a pressure start as the Phillies continue to fight for a playoff spot.

About Baseball Ross

I have been a faithful Phillies follower all my life. Today I am most intrigued by those players in the minor league system who work every day of the year to make it to the Show. This is what this blog is mostly all about. To read more, click here: https://baseballross.wordpress.com/2012/02/05/how-i-got-started-in-baseball/

Conrats to Medina happy for him but his velocity was down, command was one of pitching away instead of attacking but clearly got settled in. Yes Clearwater he was Great, B

Adonis’ future may be in the closer position….with a plus slider and change-up…. and able to get it to maybe 96/97 for an inning or two…he may be more of an effective MLB pitcher…along the lines of former Mariner and now Mets’ Diaz.

Best of his career but prior to that year he was also average. There was additional SP’S that have played with him since 2015 that have had better numbers but seem to be overlooked because of the “TAG POTENTIAL”.
Was this a showcase, because of his falling prospect, hopefully not because he like other 23-24 YO’S need more from Phillies Development
