The Phillies aren’t hitting much in spring training games. They are hitting only .205 as a team which is bad enough for 29th of the 30 MLB teams.
The one player who is hitting has yet to start a spring training game. His primary position, center field, is one of great need.
That player is Mickey Moniak. All he has done its hit for the cycle in 9 at bats going 5 for 9 with two homers, a triple, a double and a single in eight games. Yet, he is yet to start a Grapefruit League game.
Yesterday in Dunedin against the Blue Jays, Mickey hit a triple in his one at bat to complete his spring training cycle. Hitting triples are not new to him. He led the Eastern League in triples with 13 in 2019.
Amazingly, he is hitting .556 with an OBP of .556, slugging 1.556, for an OPS of 2.111. No doubt, leading all MLB spring training players. In addition, he leads the Phillies in homers and hits.
It’s hard to believe the Mick has not yet started a spring game in center field even with the Phillies great need for an impact center fielder!
