Luke Williams’ Home Run Turns Out To Be The Run Propelling Team USA Into Tonight’s Game For An Olympic Berth

Luke Williams has just played the three best games of his career in the Americas Olympic Qualifying tournament putting Team USA in a position to clinch an Olympic berth in tonight’s final game.

In addition to getting on base five times in the Game One win and hitting a two run triple to provide the winning margin in Game Two, Luke homered to give Team USA an early 2-1 lead against Team Canada in Game Three. Team USA went on to win 10-1 with a seven run, eight inning thanks in part to a two run double by Williams in the inning.

Williams is hitting .538 (7 for 13) in the three wins as Team USA’s lead off hitter. He is the only batter of the eight countries to hit for a tournament cycle. He has scored five runs and driven in six to lead Team USA in the three games.

Not only has Williams put up great offensive numbers, he made a leaping catch in run prevention in left field early in last night’s game when the game was still 0-0.

The final game to determine the an Olympic berth will be played tonight at 7:00. All Luke Williams and Team USA needs to do is beat Venezuela to get earn an invitation to Tokyo, Japan starting on July 23rd.
