All It Took Was a Drop in the Clearwater Threshers’ Lineup and Luis Garcia Gets Hot With the Bat

In the last seven games Clearwater Threshers middle infielder, Luis Garcia has gone 9 for 21. Over the last three of those games, he is 5 for 10 with two triples and two home runs. All it took was a drop from the two hole to the six or seven holes in the lineup.

Yesterday, the Threshers lost 13-4 but more importantly they may have found a middle infielder for the future in the 20 year old Garcia. His current hot streak has raised his average 23 point to .239 for the season after falling to .213 batting second in the lineup.

Never much of a power hitter in his previous first two seasons in the Phillies system, with his two homers yesterday, Luis equaled his home run total for all of last year with Lakewood at four. It took him 467 at bats last year and only 176 at bats this year to reach that total.

In the last three games in particular, Garcia has reminded me of a slightly bigger Joe Morgan. This especially was the case yesterday when he went deep twice batting from the left side.

The Phillies will need middle infielders sooner than later. By 2023, we may see Luis Garcia starting as a middle infielder in the Phillies lineup, if the last seven games are any indication.

About Baseball Ross

I have been a faithful Phillies follower all my life. Today I am most intrigued by those players in the minor league system who work every day of the year to make it to the Show. This is what this blog is mostly all about. To read more, click here: https://baseballross.wordpress.com/2012/02/05/how-i-got-started-in-baseball/
