Except for the Clearwater Threshers, the Phillies Organization Took It On the Chin Yesterday

Congratulations to the Clearwater Threshers on Thursday night. They were the only full season team in the Phillies organization to win. They downed the Tampa Tarpons 9-3 to get back to .500 at 34-34 on the season.

The rest of the teams in the Phillies system are all under .500 including the MLB team. They all lost yesterday to go a combined 37 games under .500 as an organization. The big league team now sits at one game under .500. Only the poor record of the N.L. East keeps them in contention for the post season as they attempt to fight off a three game losing streak.

It’s not a pretty picture. Our blog attempts to highlight the best of the Phillies system night after night. It’s not an easy job! So how did the Threshers win last night to go 2-1 so far in the six game series with a team like the Tarpons who are 24 games over .500 and lead the Southeast League? They did it by timely hitting, 13 walks and a strong effort of four shutout innings of piggyback relief by a young lefty, Rafael Marcano.

The Threshers had a balanced attack. Six players in the lineup contributed one RBI each, including Rixon Wingrove. Lead-off hitter Luis Garcia did not have a hit but walked three times and scored two runs. Catcher Luis Aparicio walked four times and had one hit to score two runs.

Marcano was the key. He shut down the big bats of the the Tampa lineup on two hits striking out five in his four innings. He threw 73 pitches, 41 for strikes, in the 5th through 8th innings to stop the Tarpons while the Threshers batters kept adding on runs.

The 2021 baseball season is now early in the second half. The players of the Phillies system at all levels better finish strong to salvage not only this season but their futures as well!

About Baseball Ross

I have been a faithful Phillies follower all my life. Today I am most intrigued by those players in the minor league system who work every day of the year to make it to the Show. This is what this blog is mostly all about. To read more, click here: https://baseballross.wordpress.com/2012/02/05/how-i-got-started-in-baseball/
